This weeks bag is earthy and sensory, with textures, fresh scents, and various forms of inspiration to guide you through the week. Unpack the goodies here, whether they be a luxurious lip shine, a soft and pleasant gardenia candle, or a hand-made metallic pouch great for carrying the smallest of treasures.
It's a well known fact that your average White Girl will go out to pick up takeout, head out for an afternoon jog, or plan to be going to a friends house when all of a sudden, they black out and spend $75 at CVS. If it has happened to me once, it has happened to me more times than I can count on two hands (and feet). When you get home you snap out of it and realize you have just purchased some of the most guiltily satisfying items, but you know you have done wrong. Tail between your legs you bust out the powdered donuts, uncork the Essie nail polish, and unwrap the trashy DVD, wallowing in your misunderstanding of how you cannot manage to control yourself in a drugstore. See below for the most common offenses:
Mission Cantina is perfect for Taco Tuesday, because I really don't love anything here except their tacos. Order up about 4 for yourself, as they are a bit small. I suggest the fish and the blackened chicken tacos, and always load them up with guac. Mission Cantina was started by the same guy famous for Mission Chinese, Danny Bowien, and the menu takes tacos up a notch from your classic truck or stand. Mission Cantina is a hip, neon and psychedelic spot to catch a gourmet taco bite in the lower east side. A tad bougshie for a taco spot, but it still hits the spot. Happy TT! Sometimes people have sick days, sometimes we call them mental health days. Well I took a week of that. However, knowing that leaving you all empty handed on Taco Tuesday, "Whats In Your Bag" Wednesday, and Thirsty Thursday is incredibly cruel, I took the liberty to venture to a city nearby to NYC, and build you up a City Guide. Ladies and Gents, feast your eyes on the Fashion Farmer's Guide to DC. Oh yeah, and don't you worry about my hiatus, I'll never leave you again . . . EATS: Eastern Market, Teds Bulletin, Red Apron and more . . .What to get at . . . Eastern Market: Pick around at the fresh fruit in the outside stands, then make your way inside for a fishy lunch treat. Teds Bulletin: The Pop Tarts (they're homemade) Red Apron Butchery: Any of the breakfast sandwiches (meat suggested) Ghibillina: The white sangria during happy hour is just $5 (before 6:30pm) and then finish it off with the Margherita pizza and gnocchi. ACTIVITIES: Lincoln Memorial, BikeShare, Smithsonian and more . . .Lincoln Memorial: It's colossal size and openness makes it a near magical experience if you catch it during the sunset BikeShare: Highly suggested after a glass or two of wine, rent a bike and ride through the National Mall at night to see the various monuments lit up in all their glory Smithsonian Museum of American History: See the original Star Spangled Banner, a real vintage buggy, and First Ladies gowns, not to mention Harry Potters cloak. A museum of all things American! National Archives: If you love the movie National Treasure, you gotta go here. If you don't you still gotta. Something about being in the presence of documents that mean so much to a nation... gives you crazy perspective. Library of Congress: A gorgeous building in and of itself, take a peek into the most ornate library you'll ever see. Also don't miss Jefferson's Library. It takes your breath away, and makes you wish you read more. White on white is the newest Canadian Tuxedo, and you don't even have to be in the Hamptons to pull it off. Take a clean oxford and throw it on with a pair of tailor white pants, or make it a bit more urban with some white denim. Shorts, tanks, blouses, button ups, anything thats white, just start layering. White on white is one way to freshen and refine a drab day (like Monday).
EATI hesitate to recommend Joseph Leonard in the West Village only because it is out of character for my typical cheap and easy suggestions. But Joseph Leonard is beyond any other tiny little eatery you've ever come across. With amazing daily specials, and a fabulous bar culture, the "no reservations" rule is easily excusable. Its worth the wait for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Check it out this weekend with a friend, date, or food savvy crew. BUYTake a trip to the West Village, yet again, and fine yourself at Sucre boutique on Bleecker St., home of some of the most unique and fun jewelry I have found in NYC. Pick up these cute rings for $69 each, and be sure to check out the stores specially sourced vintage engagement rings. They are to die for. GOUnion Pool is a tough one to spot, but if you listen/look carefully, you can detect the BK hipster vibes nearly instantly. This chill and laid back bar hang is in Williamsburg, and even has a taco truck inside to provide for your taco needs while knocking back craft beers and talking about hipster things with hipster people. Go explore and enjoy!
I don't have to tell you that matching separates (aka Co-ords to our UK fashion friends), are the newest/coolest thing since sliced bread. I can't get enough of em. Check out the FFs round up below and get matchy matchy right now! Want to feel like your drinking in a medieval castle and also sit outside with a craft beer in hand? If yes, then the Ninth Ward is your spot tonight. Beware of interns and of being accused of being an intern, but once you get past that, the outside patio (which closes at 11pm) is a fun and relaxing place to kick back after a long long week. Enjoy the beers, drinks, secluded booths or fountain in the back!
Get quirky and cool with this weeks oversized and oober space-age Rebecca Minkoff bag. What's inside? All the goofy goodies you need to make it through this week. And yes, the Jenner sisters book is included because we all know we're a little bit curious as to see what happened there. Feast your eyes, and enjoy your week.
Its Taco Tuesday, and this time were headed over to the dangerously addictive Ottos tacos on 2nd Avenue. I recommend trying them all, but get guac to really fill out the experience. Once you have tried them all, or for those who don't experience food FOMO, focus in and don't bother with anything else other than the shrimp. Just trust me . . . ENJOY |
