The east coast thinks they know what the ocean is, but does the Atlantic even really count? As a hot-headed Pacific ocean native, and with no offense intended, I feel it is my duty to provide the New Yorkers I surround myself with every day the proper guidance in seeking out the bathing suit options for the summer months. From one pieces, to teeny bikinis, the following swimwear is the hottest, and no it is not from J.Crew . . .
When someone says we're going to eat out in Brooklyn, I used to say ". . . Why. . . ?" and give a stank face. Ladies and gentlemen, I promise you that if you are afraid of Brooklyn, you must shake this fear, because some of the best and most creative eating establishments exist on that other side of the pond. Take SUZUME for example. I went here the other night for a late night dinner in the middle of the thunder and lighting apocalypse that was taking place. Turns out I ended up ordering the entire menu. First, I went for the Aloha Taco Program because who doesn't want to be a part of that club. This provides you with a sample platter of their tacos. Next, (and prepare yourself), I went with a spicy salmon roll. So now there is sushi and tacos in one room. (Something I get very excited about). After the oober fresh and beautiful presented sushi roll, I moved on to noodles. (I KNOW!! SO MUCH GOING ON). And I was absolutely blown away by not just the flavor and taste, but the simplicity and fresh ingredients floating about in my glorious ramen bowl. Lastly I must discuss the beverages. I had an infused tequila which my sensitive little taste buds first lashed out at, but after a few sips, it was a warming and delicious addition to the meal. Oozing with coolness, providing a cheap yet totally classy option for dinner, and only seating a mere 15 patrons at one time on the corner of Metropolitan and Lorimer, Suzume has stolen my culinary heart. EATThis is a suggestion for that Sunday morning (more like afternoon) when you wake up and suddenly its 1pm. Where will you be heading? Dim Sum at Jing Fong. With the most grandiose entry way (yes you take an escalator up to the main dining room), grab a crew of your friends and pay no more than $10 for a meal that will keep you full until the next day. One of the best Dim Sums I've ever had. And if you're lucky, you will get to sit next to a charming (often times huge) family at your same time. *Tip: Try to get there a bit earlier than 12pm, or else you'll have to wait 30 minutes or so. BUYI'm on a serious matching separates kick. Every store I walk into I demand where they can be found, yet still shy away, for I have yet to find the perfect set. My plan this weekend is to hit Top Shop. I suggest you do the same . . . GOIf frat bros and overpriced drinks are your thing, then head over to The Frying Pan for a night you'll never forget. If they aren't you should still go, because getting tipsy on the Hudson River whether its during the sunny afternoon or the sunsetting evening, is always a good idea. I recommend the Light and Breezy (ginger beer and rum). Don't be afraid of the long line because they let people in through waves. Also, tell the bouncer when you're trying to get onto the top top deck, that you're crew is up there and you're meeting them. That way you can sneak up and scope a table for yourself!
Thirsty Thursday will be taking place this week at Crown Victoria, self nick-named Crown Vic. Head over the Williamsburg and feast your eyes on a very epic yet totally not over-hyped beer garden in Williamsburg. They have pitchers of delicious beers on tap, and they also have a photo booth. What's not to love. Also don't worry abut drunchies because their food menu is to die for (I recommend the brusselsprouts). So grab some friends and head to the huge back lot behind the restaurant for some beers and twinkling patio lights. Drink up!
If you ask me, the printed pant trend has only just begun, and can be taken as far as you damn well please. Below are the FFs picks when it comes to every style of printed pant. Whether its flared and floral or carrot-legged and camo, feast your eyes on a lovely selection of summer printed pants. This weeks bag empties out some red-hot fun. Try out a new summer red of Chanel Lip Shine, or pick up the adorable and totally entertaining Keels Simple Diary. But don't limit yourself to the red color, because the diary tells you once you've picked from the selection of many colors, all about yourself due to your color choice. I picked red for today, but you can pick any that you choose. . . Enjoy the spicy hot concoction for this weeks bag contents!
Are you as excited as I am that it's already Tuesday again?!? Taco Tuesday has taken a turn for the rugged as we head to the 2nd Street and Ave A famous Taco Truck. Though it is often a late night hit, I recommend trying out this cheap and delicious taco jam this Tuesday. Suggested menu choices: Steak, Chicken, or Carnitas, with salsa verde and extra cilantro if you're a cilantro addict like me. Served with turnip slices and a spritz of delicious lime, these tacos never disappoint, and they also never dent the wallet. Happy TT!
Some like it short, others like it long. Take a look below for a glimpse at the varying skirt lengths we're seeing this summer. Crop off a long skirt with a little mid-drift, or keep it covered up-top and hike up the hemlines down low. If you're looking for a nice new good ol fashioned bakery and sandwich spot, I have found it for you. You're welcome. Just beneath Canal, Sharkey's Cafe is the place to find that perfectly crafted sandwich you have been gunnin' for. A little birdy turned me on to the spot, so I tried it for lunch just the other day, and got the Francis Sandwich (pictured above). I have 0 regrets about this decision. So I recommend you get yourself to Sharkey's for a delicious hearty and oh so fresh snack sometime this week . . . EATHead over to Liquiteria this weekend to beat the heat and beat the greasy burrito you scarfed at 2am on Friday night. I recommend the Acai Bowl as an energizing breakfast, lunch, or snack, and get all the fixings to make it extra delicious. Grab a smoothie, my favorite is Mean Green, and enjoy the freshness refueling your body. Taking a break from tacos and meatballs is ok sometimes . . . BUYJust what you need to "top off" your weekend. And also what you need to get through Soho without looking like a tourist. Through it with a white T and BF jeans, or with a maxi dress and sneakers. Snag one of these bad boys at Top Shop for just $55 and cruise into your weekend looking cool as a cucumber . . . GOI'm technically from out of town, and I think it takes growing up on the East Coast to truly grasp the issues with what I'm about to propose. But honestly, ignorance is bliss when it comes to knowing the details of the dumping and pollution and monsters that lurk in the Hudson river. So with that, I present to you your activity for the weekend. Jet Ski the Hudson river at sunset? Absolutely. Do I know the details of how gross the Hudson is? No. So off we go . . .
